Japanese Teriyaki Chicken Bowl – A Sweet & Savory Comfort Dish

Say hello to your new favorite weeknight dinner – the Teriyaki Chicken Bowl! Juicy chicken glazed in a glossy teriyaki sauce served over steaming rice with veggies… it’s a beautiful blend of sweet, savory, and umami.

🍱 What is Teriyaki?

Teriyaki is a Japanese cooking technique where meat or fish is grilled or pan-fried and glazed with a sweet soy-based sauce. It’s quick, flavorful, and perfect for meal prepping.

🍗 Ingredients:

  • 500g boneless chicken thighs

  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil

  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds (optional)

  • 2 cups cooked rice

  • Steamed broccoli, carrots, or edamame (for serving)

For the Teriyaki Sauce:

  • ¼ cup soy sauce

  • 2 tbsp mirin or rice vinegar

  • 2 tbsp honey or brown sugar

  • 1 tsp grated ginger

  • 1 tsp garlic (minced)

  • 1 tsp cornstarch mixed with 1 tbsp water

🍳 How to Make It:

  1. In a saucepan, simmer all sauce ingredients (except cornstarch) for 2–3 minutes. Stir in cornstarch slurry to thicken.

  2. Pan-fry chicken in oil until golden and cooked through. Add sauce and coat evenly.

  3. Serve over rice with veggies and a sprinkle of sesame seeds.

🍶 A Taste of Tokyo at Home:

This dish is kid-friendly, meal-prep friendly, and totally satisfying. Bonus: you can use the same sauce for salmon, tofu, or stir-fried veggies.
